I love Pulte Homes!

Yesterday, I went to my pre-drywall meeting with the construction job supervisor and my saleswoman, Roxanne. It was really cool to learn what everything is that they're putting in the house. The frame inspection went well and only required a few additional support boards. The Energy Star inspection also went well and we passed. The sheetrock was delivered while we were having the meeting and it will start going up today!

The best thing that happened at this meeting was...the closing date has been moved in to March 12!!! I am so stoked!! That's less than a month and a half away!

This is for Jake. Honey, this is written on the sheer wall in your man cave. It is set in wood so you must adhere to it. ;)

The heart of the matter

Jacob and I packed up and headed to Austin this weekend to visit with my parents and grandparents. My grandpa, Pap, has been having chest pains for a few weeks and had some tests done last week. He got the results today and they are good. The doc said that his heart is hardening, which is normal for an 83 yr old. He's going to start taking time-released nitroglycerin pills daily. They said that his stints and bypass stuff are holding up fine.

Pap's thinking of buying a new truck since his is a '93 F150 and is starting to need some maintenance, but he wanted to wait until he went to the doc to see how long he was going to live. What a goof. I guess he'll be getting a new truck!

We had a friendly game of 42 Saturday night with my parents and of course, mom and I whooped up on dad and Jake. This is not the first time.

Do you have tickets?

To the gun show? You may need them b/c I have now worked out for 2 days straight! It feels so good to get back in a workout routine. Let's just hope that I don't become a lazy bum and break the routine, like I have been for the past 3 months. I think the working out really has increased my endorphin level. Even with only 2 days under my belt, I feel better when I wake up and have a lot of energy even before I go to bed!

After my workout on Tuesday, I felt so good! I went straight to Second Mile Mission for volunteering and had a blast. We had a small group so it was really fun to talk with everyone and just have a low-key evening. On the way home, I was filled with so much joy it was incredible. God is so sweet to reward me for my working out efforts with additional joy. Thank you Lord!

Who cut the cheese?

Last night Katie and I did a little bit of shopping and I found some great deals at Marshall's. We went to the Marshall's in First Colony since our bfs probably wouldn't like us going to the scary one by our apt. I found some Madden Girl brown open toe shoes for $15! We had just come from DSW, a few shops down, where the same shoes were selling for $40. Heck of a deal!

I'd also been looking for a cheese slicer since I have broken 2 knives in the past year cutting blocks of cheese. Laugh all you want. Yes, I cut cheese. I almost got one at HEB the other night for $5, but I decided it was a hunk-o-junk. It was entirely plastic except for the wire to slice and looked like it would break in my hand. Instead, I found one at Marshall's for $2 that is an actual brand and looks decently sturdy. Then I saw a squeegee for the shower in my new house for $1.99. I think it's normally $5 or something. Saving $$ all over the place! Here is a beautiful assortment of cheeses for your viewing pleasure ;p

Whew, what a day!

Well friends, it's been one heck of a day! I got to skype with my pal Lisa, go the The Bridge, and celebrate Jacob's great-grandma's 86th birthday! Overall, it's been an awesome day.

One unfortunate thing did happen though. Katie's boyfriend Chris' car was broken into while we were in church and Katie's purse was stolen. She was able to cancel her credit cards before they made too many purchases and file a police report, but it's such a hassle when something like this happens. She lost her wallet, phone, car keys and house keys. We had the apt locks changed today so we are safe. Chris is working on getting his window fixed. Lesson learned: do not leave anything valuable in your car in Houston ever.

On a brighter note, my house is coming along. In case you haven't checked on fb, here's a recent pic.

So I was watching the news...

Last night my eyes were glued to the TV on two different occasions. The first, was a report covering the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. They said it was a 7.0 quake and you could see that the destruction was so incredibly dense. The search and rescue mission will likely end tomorrow since people mostly do not survive past 3-4 days of being trapped without food or water. They were recommending that survivors drink their own urine to stay hydrated. Everyone please pray for the Haiti survivors as well as all of the brave rescuers and world relief/aid volunteers.

This morning I saw a couple on the news that are in the process of adopting a little girl from an orphanage in Haiti. She was missing, but one of the reporters went looking for her and found her along with all of the other children from the orphanage. This couple sounds really amazing. I think they're from Indiana and 5 couples in their town from their church are adopting kids from that orphanage. All of the children will be in the same community in the states and attend the same church so they will be able to stay together. Isn't that so cool??

The second thing I watched last night was the Texas Debate. I know that these two shows are pretty uncharacteristic for me to watch, but I guess I'm getting more mature. Don't know how else to explain it. The debate was between all of the people running for Governor of Texas: Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Debra Medina. It was pretty funny actually to watch grown politicians arguing like siblings. I also just read an article that Medina will not be allowed to participate in a debate in Dallas Jan. 29 since she does not meet the sponsor's criteria to be included in the debate (aka they don't like her). You can read about it for yourself here: http://blog.taragana.com/politics/2010/01/15/debra-medina-excluded-from-texas-gubernatorial-debate-13290/

I'll take another piece of that pie

Well folks, I finally caved. Here I am laying my life open for your viewing pleasure. Welcome to the life of a bean. To explain the title of the blog a tad, Katie calls me Beans. I think she called me Jilly Bean, Jill Beans and eventually just Beans. Now you know.

My first entry is the result of my attempt at making Ice Cream pie and caramel sauce, recipe provided by the Pioneer Woman. If you've never heard of her, you must must check her out: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/. New recipes daily and detailed instructions including full sized pictures!

The crust was delicious, but my little old mixer didn't quite cut it whipping the egg whites. One day I dream to have a fancy mixer with a whisk attachment :) I used strawberry and vanilla bean for the 2 ice cream layers. The caramel sauce was such a great addition. Next time I think I'll try some triple chocolate flavor and vanilla bean. Mmmmm!!
